Well, it's taken six months, but I finally have a dual-core machine with a cool new vid card, 4GB RAM, and some other cool bells and whistles. I'm currently updating Windows (::gag::) and killing some time while DH bitches at his computer behind me. For reasons failing logical explanation, as soon as he tries to load the drivers for the wireless access card, his computer goes into infini-loop, continually rebooting and trying to get into Windows. And the BSOD doesn't show up long enough to figure out what the error is. ::sigh::

What's really wierd is that his computer is very similar to mine -- same motherboard, same memory; different processor (his is the 45nm version of mine) and vid card (his 8800GTS vs. my 8600 GTS). So there's something of a conflict with the drivers or with the communications with the wireless card. At this point, he's about ready to slag the Windows partition back to the stoneage and reinstall. =\

On the other hand, I've had a few little glitches (getting the USB keyboard and mouse to work), but nothing major has happened. (And yes, I'm knocking on wood right now!) I'm hoping to close up the case very shortly... as soon as I figure out what to do with my USB ports on the top of the machine.

Computer!pr0n later. =)

ETA: Well, knocking on wood didn't help. I'm now on the lappy, waiting to see if installing XP SP2 before I install my drivers will stop giving me BSOD. The error is "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area." My only guess is that, somehow, the SP2 update doesn't recognize my memory or something to that effect. Which doesn't seem to make sense, as DH is using the exact same memory, and using SP2. (His issues appear to be resolved ATM -- something to do with the drivers and a Windows install repair.)
