Title: Better Left Unsaid
Author: Bec
Fandom: The Avengers
Pairing: Steed/Mrs. Peel
Line: "One day they're going to make a movie about this."
For: coltsbane
Rating: PG
Notes: Though anyone who has seen the awful "Avengers" film starring Fiennes, Thurman, and Connery will get some of the significance of this, circumstances are somewhat different. Think Steed and Mrs. Peel of the 1960s -- Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee. =) Apologies to Ang for posting while she's gone, but the muses were inspired.

Thanks to Ness for the header layout. ;)

Mrs. Emma Peel reclined slightly on the overstuffed sofa of John Steed's Stable Mews flat, nails picking idly at the seam of a throw pillow. She could hear Steed messing about in the kitchen, having gingerly placed her there and muttered something about an ice pack. "I don't know, Steed," Mrs. Peel said, brow furrowed, lips pursed. "Spraining my ankle during the Prince's polo match. It doesn't seem terribly patriotic to me."

"Nonsense!" Steed called in return. His voice carried with it his usual lighthearted tone, and Mrs. Peel could almost see the smile. As he swept back into the room, her suspicions were confirmed as he was grinning broadly, an ice pack in his hand. "He was losing badly and your patriotic heart swelled with pity. No longer able to watch, your subconscious arranged a slight accident – a sprain from which you will inevitably recover."

A lopsided grin slipped across Mrs. Peel's features as she watched Steed kneel before her. "Leaving room for my gallant knight-errant to swoop in and rescue his damsel in mild distress?"

"Exactly." Still grinning, Steed's eyes lit with an impish gleam, and he held her eyes with his own as she crossed her legs. Then, very slowly, he drew down the zipper on her right boot. When he spoke again, his voice had dropped an octave, taking on a sonorous quality. "One day they're going to make a movie about this."

Emma tilted forward from her waist. Brown eyes danced with a hint of mischief, but Steed could see a hint of intensity burning behind them. Her grin softened and became something entirely different. "I certainly hope not," she replied. "It might be positively indecent." Her lips brushed his ever so slightly as they formed her words. "Some things are better left unsaid."

Steed absently placed the ice pack to the sofa beside her, closing the gap between them. His expression mirrored her own. "Indeed," he commented and before long, the sprain and the ice pack were forgotten.
