"Carter -- I haven't had my coffee yet!"
Apr. 22nd, 2004 10:16 amYa know, life is SOOO much better after a cup of coffee in the mornings. =)
Things are finally starting to wind down a bit. This week alone I have completed my 6 - 8 page essay on Aristotle, Machiavelli, Leo Strauss and George Washington; presented on Pope John Paul II's visit to Poland in 1979; read 3 chapters of Supreme Command; and completed a 9-slide presentation on "New Defense Priorities." Friday night, I'll be hosting a small study session for comprehensives. That will leave the 10 - 12 page paper on the Pope's statesmanship, an 8 - 10 page paper on the Navy's role in the War on Terror, two final exams, and comprehensives on Wednesday of next week.
::sigh::
Is it summer yet? I'm looking forward to the start of a new semester just so I can have a break! Maybe getting away from politics for a session will help cure some of this burn out.
The in-laws (who, admittedly, aren't that bad) have been at the house almost every evening this week, and possibly tonight and tomorrow night as well. This has been great for my husband, but it's really put the stress on me, especially as much work as I've left to do. As the "hostess," I feel the need to make sure everything is cool for them -- drinks, food, etc; I also feel as though I'm ignoring them when I have to go and close myself off in the bedroom to get some work done. They say they understand, and I'm really sure they do... but it's just adding so much to the stress level to have them around.
My morning was a little frazzled, too. DH forgot that it was Thursday and thus didn't wake me at about 6:10 like normal. Instead, I woke up at 6:30 when he came back into the bedroom to get a shower -- and I usually leave at 6:45. Showering, dressing, and getting my $#it together, I started to ask DH if he could take the bus instead of my dropping him by the Metro station. He sighed, as if it were a great burden and said, "I'll take the bus." With that attitude, I gave my own sigh and told him I would take him. At 7:02 we finally rolled out the door. If I don't get to the main drag out there before 7:15, I might as well just turn around and go home.... but I decided, in the interests of clarity, sanity, and all around hunger, that I should stop at Starbucks, just on the off chance I could get something. Stopped, got out, went in...and turned right around. The line was around the corner of the counter. So... without coffee, I drove out to the main drag, at 7:10. Traffic was a bit jumbled, and some freaks forgot what a turn signal is for. DH gets dropped off at the Metro station at 7:20. I then have 40 minutes to haul ass toward the District and get to class by 8 -- including paying the parking fee, parking, and getting across the bloody campus to class.
Right.
I got to campus with about 5 minutes to spare, thinking that I can hit the Coke machine on the way in, at least have *some* form of caffeine before my presentation this morning. Problem was, when I got to the machine, there was not a single thing with caffeine LEFT in the machine. And the coffee bar wasn't open yet. Grrr. Not a happy camper.
Which brings me back to "Ya know, life is SOOO much better after a cup of coffee in the mornings. =)" I've had coffee and scone, completed my reading assignment for 11 AM, and am about to head out for class.
::taps veins::
Yeah, I'm an addict. Get over it. ;)
