Yeah, yeah...

I know. You'll get more substance later. And the answers to the last meme. For now, a new fandom meme, snatched from
allisnow:
1. The first character I fell in love with:
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
6. The character I would shag anytime:
7. The character I'd want to be like:
8. The character I'd slap:
9. A pairing that I love:
10. A pairing that I despise:
1. The first character I fell in love with: Della Street, Perry Mason. I used to watch Perry as a kid, sitting in the dining room with my grandmother as we ate lunch. Della was pretty, dressed snazzy, and had it all together. In an era where a lot of the women were busy baking pies and playing Suzie Homemaker, she was out there, holding her own with a very tough attorney. I guess you could say that left something of an impression on me.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Tom Zarek, Battlestar Galactica. I didn't want to like him -- really I didn't. But when I sat down to write my first BSG fic, I ended up writing from his POV. Like a lot of real politicians out there, he's power hungry and wants power anyway he can get it; unlike a lot of real politicians, I think he feels he has the best prescription for what ails Colonial society. It makes him a very interesting study in contrasts. Something about that appealed to me -- still does. I can't wait to see what else he gets himself in to.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Kara Thrace, Battlestar Galactica. I know, I know... Lee and Kara 4evr!!!!11!!! Or not. Ron Moore and crew have really pieced together this incredible ensemble cast and there are -- to me, at any rate -- a lot more interesting characters I want to know more about. We've been watching her thrash about for three-point-five seasons now, and I want something more. Either go somewhere with the character, or shift focus. Just because someone is angsting does not mean there's character growth. It just means there's angst.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Tom Zarek, Battlestar Galactica. See above. =)
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Catherine Willows, CSI. Before the writers started mangling the show, Catherine was this awesomely strong female character in an ensemble cast. She was confident, had learned from her mistakes, and survived a really nasty divorce. As time has gone on, however, she's slipped and fallen; she's again become the cheap floozie she once was. While I understand that change is important for growth, there were other, more meaningful ways for the writers to draw the character out. Sorry, Marg. Even I had to quit watching. =\
6. The character I would shag anytime: Gonna go with the instinctive answer on this one: Bruce Wayne, Batman Begins. I mean, really -- Christian Bale.
7. The character I'd want to be like: I can't say I'd want to be like any one character. I'd love to take Laura Roslin's strength of will; Della Street's sense of organization; Barbara Gordon/Batgirl's kick-ass attitude (and black belt); Jack Ryan's analytical smarts; and Abigail Whistler's accuracy with a bow (as well as her other butt-kicking abilities). There's probably a few others I'd like to steal traits from, but I can't really think of them at the moment.
8. The character I'd slap: Bruce Wayne/Batman, Justice League Unlimited. If he has to spend time to justify the reasons why he shouldn't date Diana, he should just suck it up and take the girl out on a date. He might -- accidentally -- have a little fun.
9. A pairing that I love: Bill Adama/Laura Roslin, Battlestar Galactica. While Lee and Kara have the teenage angst-fest going on, Adama and Roslin have the adult version. It's been awesome to watch the two characters grow as individuals as the series has progressed; even more amazing has been the way they have grown together as well. Given the animosity with which they viewed each other at the beginning, I never would have thought it possible. They just reiterate the fact that time is precious and you should be thankful for what you have while you have it.
10. A pairing that I despise: Sara Sidle/Gil Grissom, CSI. I'll admit -- I've never really liked Sara. She's always struck me as dour and totally lacking in self-esteem; she's a complete opposite to Catherine. Her behavior toward Grissom has always bordered on that "Don't Stand So Close To Me" stalker-like vibe, which totally sets me off any type of romantic relationship between the two. Needless to say, I haven't watched CSI since about fourth season.
