It's just after two AM, and I really should be in bed. Well, I am in bed, just curled up with the laptop and wondering when, precisely, I'll get drowsy enough to put it aside and crawl in. I'm starting to get that way, but it's taking waaaay too long. Maybe I'll trade the lappy for my crossword puzzles shortly and fall asleep in the middle of clue 24-across.

Not a very productive weekend, but a restful and fun one. Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] celsitude and I got to do a little damage to our checkbooks, taking the mall by storm. I got most of what will likely be my summer wardrobe, as well as a couple pair of shoes -- sandals, even! -- and an awesome pair of linen slacks. All of this was in addition to the pants I ordered from REI and the shorts I ordered from Campmor. Then again, I'm relatively certain that most of the stuff from REI won't fit. I had to order a larger size to accomodate my hips, and let's just say that what fits my hips frequently gapes in the waist. Gah. Anyway... we had brunch, and then went shopping. It was, as always, a blast. Hopefully, we can do this -- getting together, not just the shopping (DH will kill me otherwise) -- a little more often. =)

Saturday night, DH and I met up with a friend from our Star Wars Galaxies days, who now plays World of Warcraft with us. He and his wife were in town for a wedding, and wanted to take the time to meet up with us, so we did. Awesome steakhouse...but they do everything well there, including the chicken and the porkchops. And dessert? Yeah, sooo not to be missed. We chatted and ate and chatted some more, even after the bill was paid. Thankfully, they didn't rush us. It was great to meet Beyo (short for Beyowolf, his Galaxies handle) and his wife. It was also interesting to see -- as with any online friends -- what they looked like in real life. Scarily enough, Beyo reminded me of DH's father, only more animated and talkative. DH didn't really see it, but ::shrugs:: what do I know? ;)

Today we managed to actually cook dinner (gasp!), and do a load of laundry. Mom will be here in a little over a week, and I have so much I want to get done. I just have to find the motivation to do it. Staying up till 2 AM isn't helping, though, is it?

Back a few months ago, I discussed with [livejournal.com profile] temero the possibility of doing Royal Manticoran Navy uniforms from the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. We both kinda hemmed and hawed about it; I knew I'd never be able to sew it, and I had been burned before by an online seamstress, so we weren't sure where to go. Then I did some digging around and found "The Magic Wardrobe." I was fairly impressed by what I found, and I did do some searching around (with a little help from research assistant Mr. Google). I found a lot of very happy Slave Girl Leias. Of course, some of them shouldn't have been permitted to wear said costume, but hey... it's their money. Even if it is my eyes. Anyway... we tossed them an e-mail to get a quote. It wasn't cheap. Really. not. cheap. On the other hand, we knew we wanted it done properly the first time, and done professionally. So, we sucked it up and decided to go with them. The designer, Liz, was apparently very excited to draw this assignment because we've already seen images of the tunics in their pinned-together state -- and we placed the order what? About three weeks ago? Liz got in the wool, ordered the sleeve rank insignia, and has been dealing with our ceaseless questions and total nitpickage very well. Probably with more patience than they deserve. And the pinned-together images? Oh yeah, I can't wait to see the finished product. We'll be dragging these out for DragonCon, maybe entering the Hall Costume Contest, but no Masquerade. Squee! (And yes, there will be pictures...later.)

And yes, I'm still trying to fix the desktop PC. Long story short, I ended up replacing the motherboard and the CPU, and apparently Windows has now decided it didn't like it. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend about cloning the hard drive, installing Windows again (thus reformatting the current drive), and then setting up with a primary and slave drive. It's kinda a rigamarole, but oh well. It'll keep my data...and I have waaay too many fics on there to lose. (And no, the repair Windows option didn't work...much to my total lack of amusement.)

Thank Heavens for Edgar. ::pats the lappy::

Now, where's that crossword book...?

...so I'm open to suggestion.
