...And Again...

It's stuff like this that really pisses me off:
Philadelphia Gives Boy Scouts Ultimatum;
City Solicitor Tells Branch to Renounce Its Ban on Gays or Lose Rent Subsidy
To which I say...get off my honor. The Court has already ruled that the Scouts, as a private organization, have the ability to choose who they wish to hire and who they wish to include as members; Congress has made sure that they still have access to public facilities. The Council in question has already gone out on a limb from National with their "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Going any further would remove them from participation under the Charter...opening up a wholly different can of worms, both legal and financial.
Politically correct? No. But I've seen the positive changes that Scouting brought to my brother, his patrol, his pack, and the regional council; participating in BSA events gave he and his father time together they wouldn't ordinarily have had otherwise. On this evidence, the cry for political correctness in Philadelphia will fall on deaf ears here.
Here's hoping someone in Philly either comes to their senses, or the Council finds someone else to help out.
