I finally got the shipment of goodies from home, and I'm working up the nerve to finally start construction on the bodysuits for Valkyrie and Black Widow. I hesitate because I know that, with a few more weeks left to work in the gym, I can make a real difference -- my arms are coming along nicely, so I know the waistline is next. The hips... eh, they're usually the last to be impacted by any activity, unfortunately. I was a total slacker this weekend, though, so I'm really looking forward to getting back to the reformer tomorrow.

Since I'm hesitating on the final bodysuit construction, I've at least been working on the accessories for the various costumes. I finished Clint's shooting glove; modified Clint's holster; shaped Valkyrie's half-gauntlets and shoulder discs; and pulled together a workable version of Black Widow's belt and belt keepers. I still need to smooth and paint Val's armor, and finish the last bit of Tasha's holster rig, but I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished. I also need to motivate DH to help out with the cutting and sanding of the dowel rods for his arrows. What's Hawkeye without some ammo, right?

Tomorrow, I'm hoping to do a little paint testing, and get a layer of wood glue over my worbla samples. I don't have much time to screw up, so I figured it would be better if I didn't screw up the final armor. I'm thinking I may also start on Val's bodysuit later this week...whenever I happen to be feeling a bit more optimistic. =) She'll really be a decent trial run for the final Black Widow bodysuit.

DH and I have taken to saying that if you wait for the weather to accommodate you, you'll never do anything. So, with a gray sky, looming rain clouds, and insanely high humidity, I set out on Sunday to jumpstart my training again. I walked the neighborhood twice; ran the last 1/4 mile or so. For the first time in a very long time, the run felt good -- I just concentrated on breathing and the music piping through the headphones and cruised that last quarter mile.

On Monday, with another gloomy sky, I drove down to the nearby pond, where there is a 2.6 mi walking trail. I'd hoped to recapture some of that great feeling from Sunday, but it just wasn't happening. I managed about a mile run, off and on, and then a good, steady clip for the remainder. It really was nice to get off the asphalt and into the woods. I'm hoping I can repeat the same later this week.

Tuesday has been a day of rest... sort of. I spent all day running errands and collecting supplies and tools to help me finish up the props for D*C: heat gun, multi-tool, craft foam, rubber cement, and a few other things. I've made some good progress on Valkyrie's armor; I'm waiting for DH to get back before I start tackling Hawkeye's arrows.

So far, nothing accomplished today, other than breakfast, the dishes, and buying some new music (Jacob's Trouble, if anyone is interested =) ). Headed in a few minutes to trace out a pattern for my "Natasha civvies" -- red, orange, and brown tank tops -- for casual wear around the con. If anyone notices, awesome; if not, I'm not losing any sleep over it. I figure I'll try and tackle that for a bit before moving back over to work on the forearm portion of Val's half-gauntlet. With the weather, I should be painting. Unfortunately, I've not gotten to the point where I can yet. Still have to finish shaping and sealing the foam before I can jump ahead to painting. =\

Goals for this week: )

Yeah. I added another one. Valkyrie/Brunhilde from Fearless Defenders. I totally blame this gal who did Hippolyta from the same title. I saw several of her "in progress" photos and, when I came across the new Valkyrie costume on the cover of #8, I decided I found another one I could do. The good thing is that she practically uses the same pattern as Widow, with some minor alterations...which I've already done. I threw together a muslin to test it, using my serger. Went together fast, so I'm hoping the same will be said of the real thing. Ordered a few props the other day, too, including a 47" foam latex sword. Bwahahahaha....

Still trying to wait a little longer before I work on the final products...still trying to lose a bit of weight. The 7 day cruise I just got off probably didn't help! =)

So far, for Widow, I've done some fabric and stitch testing with some good results. I even found a new fabric to try, one that looks a lot more like the screen-used fabric. It's a little thin, though, so I'm reserving judgement until I can get some samples pieced together. If you want to take a peek at the work in progress, you can look here, where I started uploading things to link back from RPF.

Finished the quiver for DH's Hawkeye, and will be moving on to the shooting glove later this week. I need to pick up some elastic ribbon to applique to the fingers first. After that, it's a matter of getting the holster put together. Forgot the Dremel last trip home. Will either have to buy a new one, or wait till I go home at the end of July. =\

...and a lot of my supplies are currently in transit from the States. I had ordered a lot of things and had them shipped to my mother, who has shipped them to me. Annoyingly, I might have to pay duties/taxes, but we'll see. Some of it was personal items and Christmas presents from 3 - 4 years ago that never made it back to Texas. Mom labelled it "gifts and scrap fabric," with a value of about $100. I'm betting the "fees" will probably be $50 to get my stuff out of hock. Frakking import BS. Course, if this stuff were available in-country, I wouldn't have to resort to such measures. Then again, even when it's available here, it still costs a @#$% fortune to ship, even within Canuckistan...probably because I'm on an island. Meh.

Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with where I'm at -- aside from the weight loss. The gym has decided to close for two weeks for remodeling and rebranding, so I'm without my reformer classes for the next week and a half while they wrap it up. I finally got off my arse today and went for a walk/run. It felt strangely awesome! Hoping to continue the trend...though it's 12:15 right now, and I'm wide. friggin. awake. with too much excess energy. If I'm lucky, I'll start slowing down soon.

Till later, folks!

Now that I'm sitting still for a little while, I'm definitely elbow deep in creating our Hawkeye and Black Widow costumes for this year. Since I'm trying to work my butt off -- literally, to lose about 6" -- I'm trying to wait till the last to complete the lower half of my Widow bodysuit. That means I'm focusing a lot of attention on props and Hawkeye at the moment.

A while back, I started collecting links and images to the various things I would need to buy for the costumes. The end result are two Pinterest boards -- one for Clint, and one for Natasha. I've been using these as I've been buying up a lot of things to get everything modified, prepped, and completed. VISA really likes me right now...

And this is why (snipped for epic listing)... )

So far, the only thing I've really gotten done is the modification to Hawkeye's vest. I needed to remove the velcro strips and trim the collar. Easy enough, and I think I did a decent enough job.

...and I've at least started the muslin of the bodysuit bodice. Putting the zipper in the first time proved to be a bust. I've since decided that the seams there won't stretch anyway, due to the zipper tape, so I'll interface the edges to stabilize them, and try again. I also won't be using an invisible zipper like the pattern calls for, so that will help, too.

Everything else I need is currently sitting at my mother's in Atlanta. I'm hoping everything will get there by the end of next week so I can get it all shipped to Houston and be able to work on a few things while we're home for Comicpalooza. This is partially because it was too expensive to have stuff shipped to Canuckistan; partially because some items could not be shipped here (like the airsoft pistols). And hey, why not make use of my Amazon Prime where I could, too? =D

Needless to say, I've been ODing on The Avengers, and soooo ready for these to be done. I want to be take my time and do this right, but OMGsoimpatient!

Speaking of impatient... Really, really impatient to get this extra 6" off my hips, and really, really frustrated that fatigue keeps bugging me, and keeping me from hitting the gym more often. Trying to do better about what I'm eating, and using my little FitBit to try and keep tabs on things. Easier to eat healthy at home than it is here, though. Meh. Ten pounds. I can do this.

For now, off to finish watching The Avengers again, and check in on my Thursday night RPG. Auf wiedersehen!

In the sewing room today, working on my Black Widow costume for Dragon*Con 2013. Have spent the better part of the past couple of days reading fanfic, and come to the following two conclusions:

1) There needs to be more Clint/Natasha (Avengers movie-verse) fic.
2) There needs to be more Sam/Quorra (Tron: Legacy) fic.

The first one, I'm working as part of the solution. The second... not sure I'm there yet. Or if I ever will be. For now, I'll simply have to re-read the good stuff I've found and keep creative in the sewing room. Maybe the muses will join the conversation soon.
